My SS15 is starting to get into photography, and our trip to the F1 last year inspired him to start practicing to get good shots. He hopes to actually get a car in frame, in focus this year!!
As a fellow amateur, I can relate, so I’m getting him to practice with high shutter speeds and also a technique called panning.
As always, there are much better articles out there on these techniques than I could write, so enjoy the links and shots below.
Now for some action!

This photo was taken at dusk on the way home, coming off one highway and merging into another.
I was driving and was trying to snap a shot out of my car window. (Naughty, me, I know.)
I kept the horizon crooked, as that was how I took it – and even though it probably would have looked better if I corrected it, it reminds me of the haphazard way that I took it.
There were a few shots where the full car was in the picture, however it seemed to give the impression of blurred rather than ’speed’.

I arrived in Ho Chi Minh City on the day of this word – wine – and do you think I could find any in the places I went to?? Obviously I wasn’t going anywhere very high class, however I was tired and went to be on the 13th without a wine photo.
HOWEVER, on streaks of light day (Day 46), I was in a bar, having a class of Savignon Blanc, and fiddling with shutter speeds on my camera, and pulled this one off.
I am actually in this shot on the left, but you can’t see me as I was so blurred as to be invisible. I was swinging the glass back and forth by the stem.
Don’t you love the mix of hues in the bowl of the glass?
What a totally flukey shot, however I think I can reproduce it (given the same sort of lighting), and will try and remember this technique for next time!
